The Deity of Christ
Scripture identifies Jesus as truly God through His names, attributes, works, worship, and unity with the Father.
Summary
Jesus Christ is truly God. Scripture calls Him God and Lord, gives Him the Creator's works and eternal attributes, places Him within the divine name, records worship and prayer directed to Him, and shows Him forgiving sins and judging the world. He is personally distinct from the Father yet shares the one divine being. The eternal Son became man to save without surrendering His deity.
Jesus Shares The Father's Divine Glory
The case for Christ's deity does not depend on one disputed phrase. It fills the New Testament and grows from the Old Testament's revelation of the one God.
Called God And Lord
says the Word was with God and was God, then excludes Him from the created order by saying everything made came through Him. Thomas addresses the risen Jesus as “my Lord and my God” in . calls believers to await the appearing of “our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,” while applies divine language from the Psalms to the Son.
New Testament writers also apply Lord passages about the LORD to Jesus. echoes so that every knee bows and every tongue confesses Jesus Christ as Lord.
He Does What God Alone Does
The Son creates and sustains all things, gives life, forgives sins by His own authority, knows hearts, rules the Sabbath, receives prayer, and executes final judgment. places every throne and power within the creation made through and for Him. says the Son gives life and must receive the same honor as the Father.
Prophets perform miracles by delegated power; Jesus commands creation and death as their rightful Lord. Divine Names, Works, And Worship follows those independent lines together.
One With The Father, Distinct In Person
Jesus is not the Father. He speaks to the Father, is sent by the Father, and promises the Spirit. Yet He says, “I and the Father are one” in , claims the Father's unique glory before creation in , and includes Himself with Father and Spirit in the one baptismal name in .
This is the biblical foundation of the Trinity: one God eternally exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Christ's incarnation adds humanity to the Son; it does not downgrade His deity.
| The one who hungered, suffered, and died is the same divine Son through whom all things exist. That is why His cross has saving worth and His promise gives eternal life. |

Questions
Did Jesus Say 'I Am God'?
Jesus made the claim in the categories His Jewish hearers understood: He took the “I AM” name, claimed unity with the Father, forgave sins, received worship, and said He would judge humanity. Did Jesus Claim To Be God? examines those statements in context. Requiring one modern English sentence while dismissing its biblical equivalents is not a sound test.
Why Is The Father Greater?
In , Jesus speaks from His humbled mission as the incarnate Son returning to the Father. Difference of role and condition does not mean difference of divine nature. The same Gospel says the Word is God, that the Son gives life, receives equal honor, shares preexistent glory, and is confessed as Lord and God.
Does Firstborn Mean First Created?
No. In , “firstborn” means supreme heir and ruler. The explanation follows immediately: all created things were made through Him and for Him, and He exists before them. Jesus cannot belong to the class of “all things” whose Creator He is.
Why Must I Believe This?
Because the biblical Jesus is God the Son. A reduced Jesus cannot reveal the Father perfectly, bear sin with infinite sufficiency, give eternal life, or receive Christian worship. Faith receives Christ as He truly is. Rejecting His deity replaces the Lord with a creature Scripture does not present.
