Why the God-Man Is Necessary

Jesus must be truly human to represent us and truly God to reveal, save, sustain, and unite us to God.

Our Savior must be truly human to obey in our nature, bear our judgment, die, rise bodily, and serve as our sympathetic High Priest. He must be truly God to reveal the Father perfectly, give His sacrifice sufficient worth, conquer death, and bring us into eternal fellowship with God. Jesus alone is both. Only Jesus Can Bring God And Sinners Together

One person, the eternal Son, possesses a complete divine nature and a complete human nature without mixture, change, division, or separation.

A True Human Representative

Human rebellion must be answered by human obedience. Jesus is born under the law, resists temptation, loves God and neighbor perfectly, and fulfills all righteousness. As the last Adam, He represents a new humanity. His obedience is not an appearance; He obeys with a human mind, will, body, and soul.

He can also suffer and die in our place. Deity does not die, but the divine Son truly experiences human death according to His human nature. Because the person who gives Himself is the Son of God, the cross is God's own saving action.

A Divine Savior

No creature can bear the full saving mission, give eternal life, defeat every enemy, and receive the worship of the redeemed. Jesus' sacrifice has final sufficiency because the sinless person offering it is God's eternal Son. His divine power sustains His human obedience and secures every benefit of salvation.

Only the Son knows and reveals the Father perfectly. Salvation is not merely a changed legal status; it brings believers into communion with the triune God through union with Christ.

One Person, One Mediator

The two natures do not act as separate persons. The same Jesus who sleeps in the boat commands the wind, who weeps at Lazarus's tomb raises him, and who dies on the cross rises in glory. His humanity never becomes deity, and His deity never becomes limited humanity.

Questions
Is Jesus Half God And Half Man?

No. He is fully God and fully man. A divided or blended Christ would be neither the Creator revealed in Scripture nor the human representative we need. The one Son possesses both complete natures, and each retains its proper attributes.

How Could God Die?

The divine nature is immortal, but the person who died is God the Son according to the human nature He assumed. Jesus truly experienced the separation of human body and soul, while His person and divine nature did not cease to exist. This guards both the reality of His death and the unchanging life of God.

Could An Angel Save Us?
